Context
My client had built a loyalty reward program tailored toward restaurant chains but needed a neat way to integrate with their existing websites.
Goals
Streamline the process of purchasing a digital gift card in a white-labelled solution.
TLDR
Wanna' buy me lunch?
What's The Problem?
A loyalty program is only as good as its implementation with the businesses that use it. So how do we make it easy for a customer to redeem their points for a meal voucher?
Small Mercies
After a bit of research, we discovered that all of the clients who'd signed up to use this loyalty system were running WordPress. That simplified the integration immensely, and we just needed a plugin to connect with WooCommerce!
Go With The Flow
As a user, it's as simple as clicking a "Buy Voucher" button. All of the elements in the process are themed according to a brand guideline associated with that restaurant.
Who's Hungry?
Of course, sharing a meal with friends is one of life's simplest pleasures. Plus, who doesn't love a free lunch, am I right?
Your Order Is A Little Delayed
Logins and signups. Booooring! To prevent users from falling off the journey, we put the login and registration deeper into the process.
No Such Thing As A Free Lunch
Paying for stuff sucks, but it's nice when a website remembers your card details, so you just click buttons and don't think too much about your bank account balance.
Let's Eat!
Immediately following the login and payment screens with a completion screen and overview, we give the user some (nearly) instant gratification. This helps to create a positive association with their purchase journey.
What I Learned
It's all about the flow. The order of the steps in a process has an immense bearing on whether a user will successfully complete a task. I also learned that it's crucial to balance meeting goals with giving users greater agency, so they don't feel manipulated into making a purchase.
